Shipping & Returns

Shipping live plants sometimes has its challenges when dealing with inclement weather but we strive to have every single order shipped out on their scheduled shipping date. Most orders will be scheduled to ship within 1-2 weeks of ordering. Because a plant needs TLC we only ship out on Mondays-Wednesdays to ensure the plants aren’t stationed somewhere over the weekend with no water or sunlight.

The Autumn Fern (Dryopteris erythrosora) is a hardy, semi-evergreen fern known for its striking coppery-red new growth that matures into lush green fronds. It's a popular choice for shade gardens, providing year-round interest with its unique color changes.

Features:

  • New Growth Color: Coppery-red to bronze, turning deep green as it matures.
  • Foliage: Semi-evergreen to evergreen in warmer climates.
  • Size: Typically grows 18-24 inches tall and spreads 18-30 inches wide.
  • Growth Habit: Clumping and arching fronds.
  • Light Needs: Prefers partial to full shade, though it can tolerate some morning sun.
  • Soil Requirements: Moist, well-drained, acidic to neutral soil rich in organic matter.
  • Hardiness Zones: USDA 5-9, making it adaptable to a variety of climates.

Care Tips:

  • Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
  • Mulching: A layer of mulch helps retain moisture and protect roots from temperature extremes.
  • Pruning: Trim old or damaged fronds in early spring to encourage fresh growth.
  • Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring if needed.

Landscaping Uses:

  • Great for shaded borders, woodland gardens, foundation plantings, or container gardens.
  • Works well with other shade-loving plants like hostas, astilbes, and heucheras.
  • Excellent for erosion control on shady slopes.

General Care Instructions

  • Watering: Water deeply after planting. Continue regular watering for the first growing season.
  • Mulching: Apply 2-4 inches of mulch around the base, keeping it away from the trunk.
  • Pruning: Prune during dormant season to maintain shape and remove dead branches.
  • Fertilizing: Apply balanced fertilizer in early spring for optimal growth.
