Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • How much should I prune my drift rose?

Light pruning in early spring is recommended to remove dead or weak growth, and additional shaping can be done as desired to maintain their form.

  • Are deer attracted to these? Will they eat them?

    1. Pink Drift Roses are somewhat deer-resistant due to their thorns, but they are not fully deer-proof. Deer may still browse on them if food sources are scarce

  • Are drift roses in bloom when shipped?

it depends on the time of year you order them. During the summertime they will more than likely have blooms.

  • How many gallon plants of pink drift roses do I need for a square garden that is 42" X 36" ? I live in Metairie Louisiana . 70005. How long would it take to get and what would be shipping cost?

For a garden space of 42" x 36" with pink Drift roses, consider spacing each plant 2-3 feet apart to ensure they have room to spread. Given that Drift roses reach an average spread of 2-3 feet, you’ll need about two to three plants for optimal, even coverage in your space. This will help create a full, lush look while allowing for healthy airflow and growth.

  • Do you have any of the sweet drift roses?

    yes we do

  • What is the best way to prune these and when?

The best way to prune a Pink Drift Rose is in early spring, just before new growth begins. Start by removing any dead or damaged wood and cutting back the rose by about one-third of its overall size. This encourages fresh growth and abundant blooms. Focus on shaping the plant by cutting above outward-facing buds to promote an open, vase-like shape. Regular deadheading throughout the blooming season also helps maintain flower production. Pruning annually keeps your Pink Drift Rose healthy, compact, and full of vibrant blooms.

  • I live in New Mexico in zone 7b. Would Pink Drift ce able to take a western exposure in my zone?

Yes, Pink Drift rose (Rosa 'Meijocos') can thrive in a western exposure in Zone 7b, including your area in New Mexico.

Considerations for Pink Drift Rose in Zone 7b:

    1. Sunlight:

      • Pink Drift roses thrive in full sun and will do well with a western exposure, which provides ample sunlight, especially in the afternoon. This exposure is ideal for encouraging abundant blooms and healthy growth.
    2. Heat Tolerance:

      • In Zone 7b, especially in New Mexico where summers can be hot, Pink Drift roses can handle the heat, but they may benefit from regular watering to ensure they don’t dry out. The western exposure means they will get intense afternoon sun, so monitoring soil moisture is essential.
    3. Soil and Watering:

      • Ensure the soil is well-draining, as roses do not like "wet feet." Water deeply and regularly, especially during the hottest months, to keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
    4. Wind Protection:

      • If the western exposure in your area is particularly windy, consider providing some wind protection, as strong winds can stress the plants and dry out the soil more quickly.

    Summary:

Pink Drift roses can thrive in a western exposure in your Zone 7b location in New Mexico. They are well-suited to full sun but will need consistent watering and possibly some wind protection to ensure they flourish in the hot afternoon sun.

  • can this be used as a ground cover for larger roses?

Yes, Pink Drift Roses can be used as a ground cover for larger roses. They are low-growing, spreading roses that make an excellent ground cover due to their dense, spreading habit and prolific blooming.

Benefits of Using Pink Drift Roses as Ground Cover:

    1. Weed Suppression:

      • The dense foliage and spreading nature of Pink Drift Roses help to suppress weeds, reducing the need for weeding around your larger roses.
    2. Aesthetic Appeal:

      • The continuous bloom of Pink Drift Roses provides a beautiful carpet of color beneath taller roses, creating a layered, visually appealing garden.
    3. Soil Erosion Control:

      • Their spreading roots help stabilize the soil, preventing erosion, especially on slopes or in areas prone to runoff.
    4. Complementary Growth:

      • Pink Drift Roses stay low (typically 1-2 feet in height) and spread out, so they won’t compete with the larger roses for vertical space. This makes them an ideal companion, providing ground-level interest while allowing the larger roses to shine above.

    Planting Tips:

    • Spacing: Space the Pink Drift Roses 2-3 feet apart to allow them to spread and fill in the area under the larger roses.
    • Sunlight: Ensure both the Pink Drift Roses and the larger roses receive plenty of sunlight (at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day), as both thrive in full sun.
    • Watering: Water consistently, especially during the establishment phase, to help both the drift and larger roses thrive.
    • Mulching: Apply mulch around the plants to help retain moisture and further reduce weeds.

    Summary:

Pink Drift Roses are an excellent choice for ground cover under larger roses. They provide aesthetic beauty, weed suppression, and soil stabilization while complementing the growth of larger roses.

  • Would they make a good privacy barrier along a chain link fence?

Yes, Pink Drift Roses (Rosa 'Meijocos') can make a beautiful and effective low-growing privacy barrier along a chain link fence. While they don't grow tall like traditional privacy hedges, their spreading habit and dense, bushy growth can provide excellent ground cover and visual interest. These compact roses typically reach about 1.5 feet in height and 3 feet in width, making them perfect for adding a layer of color and texture. For best results, plant Pink Drift Roses in full sun and well-draining soil, and enjoy their continuous blooms throughout the growing season.

  • How long will these roses bloom in Houston Texas?

Pink Drift Roses in Houston, Texas, can bloom from early spring through fall, with a peak bloom in spring and fall. Thanks to Houston's warm climate, they often continue blooming well into November or even December with proper care. Regular deadheading and adequate sunlight (about 6 hours a day) can help prolong the blooming period throughout the growing season.

  • If planted in big tubs, should they be covered for winter in Oklahoma?

In Oklahoma, where winters can be quite cold, Pink Drift Roses planted in big tubs may need some winter protection. Here's what you can do to help them survive:

    1. Insulate the Container: Since containers expose roots to more cold compared to plants in the ground, it's important to insulate the tubs. You can wrap the pots with burlap or bubble wrap, or place them in a sheltered location like a garage or against a wall for added warmth.

    2. Mulching: Add a thick layer of mulch (about 3-4 inches) around the base of the rose bushes to help protect the roots from freezing temperatures.

    3. Covering the Roses: If temperatures drop below 20°F (-6°C), it’s a good idea to cover your Drift Roses with burlap or frost cloth to protect the foliage and stems from extreme cold and wind damage.

    4. Watering: Water the roses well before the ground freezes, as hydrated plants are better able to withstand the cold.

    5. Move Indoors (Optional): If possible, you can move the tubs into an unheated garage or shed to give them extra protection during freezing spells.

By following these steps, your Pink Drift Roses should be able to survive the winter in Oklahoma.

  • Please give the size these will grow to (wide and tall)? Thank you!

Pink Drift Roses typically reach a height of 1.5 feet and spread up to 3 feet wide, making them an excellent choice for ground cover or border plantings.

  • I live in the Deep South, Mississippi. Can I plant these now⁉️

  • Can the plant be tranplanted when it grows beyond the capacity of the original pot or planted directly in the ground?

Yes, Pink Drift Roses can be transplanted if they outgrow their pot, and they thrive when planted directly in the ground where they have space to spread.

  • Is there a replacement guarantee
