Is it save for dogs
Sunshine Ligustrums (Ligustrum sinense 'Sunshine') are generally considered non-toxic to dogs. However, some types of Ligustrum plants can cause mild digestive upset if ingested in large amounts. To ensure your pet's safety, it's always a good idea to supervise your dog around plants and consult with a veterinarian if you're concerned about specific plant ingestion. Sunshine Ligustrums are a popular choice for landscaping due to their vibrant yellow foliage and ease of maintenance.
-
Is this a hardy shrub I live in West Virginia?
Yes, Sunshine Ligustrums (Ligustrum sinense 'Sunshine') are considered hardy and can thrive in USDA Zones 6 to 10, which means they should survive in most areas of West Virginia. These shrubs are known for their bright yellow foliage and can tolerate a range of conditions, including heat, humidity, and mild cold. However, in areas with extremely harsh winters, providing some protection, such as mulching, can help them withstand colder temperatures. Sunshine Ligustrum performs best in full sun and is a great low-maintenance choice for adding color to landscapes.
-
Can it be planted this time off year. October-November?
Yes, Sunshine Ligustrum can be planted in October-November. This period is actually ideal for planting, as the cooler temperatures and increased rainfall allow the roots to establish well before the heat of summer. In Zone 8 and similar regions, the milder fall weather helps reduce transplant shock, giving your Sunshine Ligustrum a good start. Just be sure to water it adequately until it’s established.
-
Can this be planted in shade with some morning sun?
Sunshine Ligustrum prefers full sun for the best foliage color, but it can tolerate partial shade, especially if it receives some morning sun. However, planting it in too much shade may cause the vibrant yellow foliage to become less bright and more green. For optimal color and health, aim for at least 4 to 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
-

Could this plant be trimmed to grow flat maybe 8 inches, 6ft wide, 8ft tall or more. Trying to block a wall and unsightly view in a small area. Maybe you have other suggestions but this looks like a possibility. May take awhile to get to that height it sounds like but I need something manageable so I am not trimming every month. Thank you!
Sunshine Ligustrum can be shaped to grow into a narrow screen, though reaching a height of 8 feet will take time, as its growth rate is typically moderate, around 1 to 2 feet per year in ideal conditions. For a flat, dense hedge, consistent light pruning a few times a year should help maintain its form without excessive maintenance.
Other manageable options for screening might include Wax Myrtle (Myrica cerifera) or Sky Pencil Holly (Ilex crenata ‘Sky Pencil’), both of which can provide height and may require less frequent trimming. Let me know if you’d like more details on these alternatives.
I bout 8 plants and since I got great healthy plants i bought 13 more. Thank you so much
Always a Healthy and Beautiful Purchase
Very nice plants
I like it
The photo of the plant is nowhere near to the actually product. Ordered two plants . They were about ready to die. Leaves were falling off dead stems. Actually plants were about a foot tall. I now have them for two weeks and they still look terrible. Waste of money.. I will keep them for another two weeks if no improvement they will thrown in the garbage.
