Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • What is the planting zone for these roses

Sweet Drift roses thrive in USDA Hardiness Zones 4–11

  • Hello, I live in Northern Michigan, around the Mackinaw City area and need to know if this is a plant that can withstand a very cold climate in the winter months with snow being a big factor. And I know that this plant is not going to bloom during those times but if I use this as a shrubbery will it come back every Spring?

It is hardy in zones 4-11, so it can survive Northern Michigan’s winters (zone 4-5). Yes, it will come back each spring, but winter protection is recommended. Apply mulch around the base and consider burlap wrapping for extra insulation.

  • Does it come dormant

Yes, Sweet Drift Roses (Rosa 'Meiswetdom') do become dormant during the winter. Like most roses, they go through a period of dormancy in response to colder temperatures and reduced daylight hours, especially in regions with distinct seasons.

    What to Expect During Dormancy:

    1. Leaf Drop: As the plant enters dormancy, it will drop its leaves and stop producing new growth or flowers.

    2. Reduced Maintenance: During dormancy, the plant requires less water and no fertilization. Pruning is often done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.

    3. Cold Hardiness: Sweet Drift Roses are generally hardy in USDA Zones 4-11, so they can handle the cold winters in most regions, including colder zones like 7 and 6.

    4. Winter Protection: While these roses are hardy, in colder zones (Zones 4-5), it may be beneficial to apply mulch around the base of the plant after the ground freezes to protect the roots from extreme cold.

When spring arrives and temperatures warm up, the rose will break dormancy, produce new leaves, and begin flowering again.

  • What zones are they able to grow in?

Sweet Drift Roses (Rosa 'Meiswetdom') thrive in USDA Zones 4 to 11, making them versatile and adaptable to a wide range of climates. These low-maintenance, disease-resistant roses are perfect for garden beds, borders, or as ground cover. To ensure optimal growth, plant Sweet Drift Roses in full sun and well-draining soil. They are cold-hardy and bloom continuously throughout the growing season, producing beautiful, soft-pink flowers. Ideal for various landscapes, they offer a long-lasting display of color from spring through fall.
