Wakaebisu Azalea
Shipping & Returns
Shipping live plants sometimes has its challenges when dealing with inclement weather but we strive to have every single order shipped out on their scheduled shipping date. Most orders will be scheduled to ship within 1-2 weeks of ordering. Because a plant needs TLC we only ship out on Mondays-Wednesdays to ensure the plants aren’t stationed somewhere over the weekend with no water or sunlight.
Often grown for their compact habit and gorgeous blooms, the lovely Wakaebisu Azalea evergreen shrub blooms in mid to late Spring and looks its best when planted in a container, around a foundation, as part of a hedge or border or placed all together in mass. Reaching a maximum size of 2-3 feet tall and 3-6 feet wide when grown in full to partial sun and moist, well-drained soil, they perform their best in an environment with warm Summers and generally cool Winters, requiring at least some Winter cold for optimal growth. Boasting a numerous amount of funnel-shaped salmon-pink blooms with a dark, spotted blotch on it, the beautiful, unscented flowers completely cover the plant when in full bloom. From the small, dark-green and glossy leaves to the incomparably lovely blooms, add the Wakaebisu Azalea shrub to your yard or garden for a color and style you won’t find anywhere else.

Questions & Answers
Have a Question?
-
how do you maintain them and how often do you have to trim them?
To maintain Wakaebisu Azaleas:
- Light & Water: Plant them in partial shade with well-draining, acidic soil. Water regularly but avoid overwatering.
- Fertilizing: Feed with azalea-specific fertilizer in spring and early summer.
- Mulching: Add mulch to retain moisture and protect roots.
- Pruning: Trim them lightly after blooming in late spring to maintain shape and encourage growth. Major pruning isn't needed unless shaping is required. Avoid cutting too late in the season, as it can remove next year’s blooms.
Trim annually or as needed to maintain the desired size and shape.

Which azaleas are most salt resistant? We live on the coastal beach of St. George Island and generally azaleas do really well here.
The most salt-resistant azaleas for coastal areas like St. George Island include:
- Southern Indica Azaleas (e.g., George L. Tabor, Formosa) – Large, hardy, and moderately salt-tolerant.
- Encore Azaleas – More compact and reblooming, with good adaptability.
- Native Azaleas (Rhododendron canescens, R. austrinum) – More tolerant of coastal conditions.
While azaleas generally do well in your area, they still benefit from wind protection and well-draining, acidic soil to thrive near salt exposure.
