Shipping & Returns

Shipping live plants sometimes has its challenges when dealing with inclement weather but we strive to have every single order shipped out on their scheduled shipping date. Most orders will be scheduled to ship within 1-2 weeks of ordering. Because a plant needs TLC we only ship out on Mondays-Wednesdays to ensure the plants aren’t stationed somewhere over the weekend with no water or sunlight.

The Wax Leaf Ligustrum (Ligustrum japonicum), also known as Japanese Privet, is a versatile, evergreen shrub or small tree prized for its glossy foliage, fragrant flowers, and dense growth habit. It’s commonly used for hedges, privacy screens, and ornamental plantings due to its fast growth and adaptability.

Features:

  • Foliage: Thick, glossy, dark green leaves that provide year-round interest.
  • Flowers: Clusters of small, creamy-white, fragrant flowers in late spring to early summer.
  • Berries: Dark blue to black berries appear in fall and attract birds.
  • Size: Can grow 6-12 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide, but can be pruned to maintain a smaller size.
  • Growth Habit: Dense, upright, and multi-stemmed; can be shaped into a shrub or small tree.
  • Light Needs: Thrives in full sun to partial shade.
  • Soil Requirements: Well-drained soil; tolerates a variety of soil types, including poor soils.
  • Hardiness Zones: USDA 7-11, making it suitable for warm and mild climates.

Care Tips:

  • Watering: Moderate; water regularly when young, then reduce once established. Drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering.
  • Pruning: Responds well to pruning; shape as needed in late winter or early spring to maintain form.
  • Fertilizing: Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring to promote lush growth.
  • Pest & Disease Resistance: Generally low-maintenance but may be susceptible to mildew in humid conditions.

Uses & Benefits:

  • Hedges & Privacy Screens: Forms a dense, evergreen barrier for privacy and noise reduction.
  • Topiary & Formal Gardens: Can be pruned into various shapes for a manicured look.
  • Ornamental Tree: Can be trained into a small, multi-trunk tree for an elegant landscape feature.
  • Wildlife Friendly: Flowers attract pollinators, and berries provide food for birds.

General Care Instructions

  • Watering: Water deeply after planting. Continue regular watering for the first growing season.
  • Mulching: Apply 2-4 inches of mulch around the base, keeping it away from the trunk.
  • Pruning: Prune during dormant season to maintain shape and remove dead branches.
  • Fertilizing: Apply balanced fertilizer in early spring for optimal growth.
